10,000 Steps: March while traversing and through the
entire turn for at least 10 turns.
Hockey Stop Pole Plant: Come to a complete stop without moving
forward or backwards. Touch pole 2 feet below downhill tip. Turn and repeat for 10 turns.
Aztec Two Step: From wedge step right with right foot then left foot. Step left with left foot then right foot. Repeat 10 turns.
Royal Christie: Lift downhill ski turning on uphill ski uphill edge.
Ride traverse and repeat 10 turns
Pole Grip Screw Holes: Tell student to keep hands far enough out front so as to be able to see screw holes or center of grip.
Skate Turns: Skate turns without lifting the ski increasing speed with every turn on the flats.
Tuck Turns: Place poles in arm pits arms straight little on no bend at elbows backs of fingers touching. Aim hands at object in center of trail with left shoulder to left side and right shoulder to right side. Without removing hands from object turn left and right using medium to long radius technique.
Center Of Mass: Belly Button for men belt buckle for women. Point center of mass and toes to trees on left than trees on right. This is a nontechnical way to teach edge pressure control with crossover.
Human Slalom: Use students to form racecourse. Do not shin or shoulder. This is not a speed exercise but one of agility.
Superman Turns: Without poles hold hands extended out front arms straight elbows not bent. Same as tuck turns no poles.
Curtsey Turns: Curtsey into the turn do not bow. Stand on toes at end of turn and repeat. Nontechnical way to teach flex and extension.
Clown Face Smile Turns: Try to leave ski tracks resembling a smile on a clown face.
Groom The Bumps: Turn on backs of bumps crossing the trough thus allowing for a smooth run. Teach this for safety! If skiers end up in bumps and become overwhelmed this will get them down safely.
Carving Turns: Pressure the big toe on one foot and little toe on other trying to leave two tracks from skis resembling railroad tracks. Allow the body to move forward putting pressure on the ski tips jetting you into the next turn.
